Classic Motorsports Road Tours FAQ

Q: WHAT CARS ARE ELIGIBLE?

A: Our tours are open to all classic, sports, exotic, racing and GT cars built before 1979. Modern sports and exotics, from Miatas to Maseratis, are also welcome. If your planned car breaks at the last minute, substitutions may be accepted on a case-by-case basis.

Q: WHAT'S THE SCHEDULE LIKE?

A: We start each tour with a welcome reception Sunday evening. Then it’s four laid-back, fun-filled days of driving and sightseeing. We aim to be on the road by 9 o’clock each morning and back to the hotel before 5pm each night so that everyone has time to get ready for dinner.

We usually arrive at our group dinner locations by bus or van so that everyone can have a good time without worrying about driving back to the hotel. Occasionally, if the restaurant is close enough to the hotel, we will walk there as a group.

We usually leave Wednesday nights open-ended so that everyone can explore the area on their own and check out attractions and restaurants relevant to their specific interests.

Thursday night is the final dinner, then we’ll enjoy breakfast at the hotel on Friday morning before checking out.

Q: ACCOMMODATIONS & MENU?

A: We only choose premium hotels and resorts for our hub locations, and each Road Tour stays at one hub for the entire time so that you don’t have to pack and unpack your bags during your vacation. With the exception of one dinner, all meals are included as part of the tour. Our menus will vary from traditional fare to world-class plated dinners with wide appeal.

We are happy to accommodate any dietary needs that you list on your registration form.

Q: ALCOHOL?

A: We don’t believe in nickel-and-diming our guests, so we serve free beer and wine at the conclusion of each driving day (except Wednesday). Drinks are included with each dinner, too, and we aim to have a nice mix of local beer and wine, premium cocktails and spirits with each meal.

The exception to this policy is breakfast and lunch: While you’re free to purchase your own alcoholic beverages in the middle of the day, we can’t pay for any alcohol while we’re driving. If you order an alcoholic beverage at a breakfast or lunch, please ask the waiter to put it on a separate check.

Q: WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

A: You can view our cancellation policy here.

Q: WHAT IF I WANT TO TRAVEL ALONE OR TRAVEL WITH MY CHILD OR FRIEND?

A: While the majority of entrants have been couples between 45 and 85 years old, some entrants have decided to bring a friend or family member. We welcome guests who are high-school age or older.

Have three or more people in your car? Want separate hotel rooms? Want to join the tour by yourself? Please feel free to contact us for additional pricing.

Q: WHAT KIND OF GROUP DO YOU ATTRACT?

A: Our events attract those who like adventure, camaraderie and classic sports cars. We get a lot of newly-retired couples who are still young at heart. We’ve also had several entrants who brought their son or daughter. Some participants can afford to do several of these tours per year. For others, it’s a bucket-list outing. Our staff works to make everyone feel welcome.

Q: IS THIS THING ALL CARS, ALL THE TIME?

A: Absolutely not! While we love cars, we understand that other interests exist. Our schedule balances automotive attractions with stops that take in natural beauty and local history. After each tour, we hear the same thing: Participants are pleasantly surprised by the mix.

Q: WHAT IS THE DRIVING STYLE?

A: We set out in our cars at around 9 o’clock each morning and plan to be at our destinations at certain times, but we welcome those who want to cruise at their own pace as well. You can leave early, take off late, or run on your own, but be aware that some of our excursions are planned exclusively for our group, so you may miss out if you don’t arrive at the scheduled time.

At the start of each tour, entrants receive a route book with instructions and a pre-programmed GPS with turn-by-turn navigation. If you’d rather not navigate, you can follow your hosts. While we cannot condone speeding, we have purposely chosen roads that are winding, scenic and free of traffic.

Q: WHAT IF I DON’T WANT TO NAVIGATE?

A: A lead car plus a chase vehicle make the route easy to follow, GPS navigation will keep you on the route while providing the same kind of real-time instructions as the navigation apps you’re used to using every day.

Q: IS ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE PROVIDED?

A: Some mechanical assistance will be provided by the chase car, but in the event that your vehicle cannot be returned to driving condition at the roadside, we will arrange for your vehicle to be towed to a shop or back to the host resort. Further details on this will be provided at the start of your tour.

Q: WHAT ABOUT MY LUGGAGE?

A: Our tours have been redesigned as hub-style tours to eliminate the need for packing, unpacking and luggage porting between days. Just unpack and relax.

Q: WHAT IS THE DRESS CODE?

A: The dress code for all of our tours is resort casual. We recommend that you check your tour’s itinerary before packing so that you can choose the most comfortable clothes for each day’s activities.

Q: WHAT PAPERWORK IS REQUIRED?

A: All drivers must have a valid driver’s license, whether domestic or foreign. All vehicles must be registered and insured or carry an appropriate dealer or transporter tag. There will also be a Hold Harmless Agreement and an In Case of Emergency contact form provided. These forms must be filled out and signed before the tour begins.

Q: WHAT ARE THE LOCAL AIRPORTS?

A: For our Orange Blossom Tour, the nearest airports to Palm Coast are Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB), which is about 37 miles away, and Orlando-Sanford International Airport (SFB), which is about 70 miles away.

For the Smoky Mountain Tour, the nearest airport to Asheville is Asheville (AVL) Airport which is 11.6 miles away. Other nearby airports include Greenville/Spartanburg (GSP) (52.9 miles), Knoxville (TYS) (82.3 miles) and Charlotte (CLT) (94.9 miles).

For the Bluegrass Tour, the closest major airport to Berea is the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) in Louisville, 113 miles away from our hub hotel. A smaller domestic airport, the Blue Grass Airport in Lexington, is 45 miles away from our hub hotel.

For the Empire State Tour, the closest airport is the Ithaca Tompkins International Airport (ITH), 5 miles away from our host hotel.

Q: HOW CAN I TRANSPORT MY CAR TO YOUR EVENT?

A: Most participants choose to drive their cars to the event. If you’d prefer to ship your car, Reliable Carriers is our preferred provider. Give them a call at (800) 521-6393. Some entrants tow their own cars, and we provide safe storage areas for their tow vehicles and trailers.
